This post is all about tips on how to survive college final exams week.
Finals week is slowly approaching and before you know it, it’ll be a Monday morning filled with pencils and scantrons. Or proctored test online. You need to know how to survive college final exams week and I’m here to help.
After we’re done getting turkey drunk and loving on our family and friends for Thanksgiving, it will back to the books and sooner than later it will be FINAL EXAMS WEEK.
You’ve probably overthought this final exams week a million times in your head already.
The thought of the long days and nights that await you with your favorite Starbucks order close by are more than enough to stress you completely out.
Don’t forget to take care of your MVP during finals week, YOU!
You need to be in tip top shape in order to perform your best on your exams.
Here are a few ways that you can ensure you are on top of your self-care routine during finals week.
Start or Keep Up A Normal Self-Care Routine
Don’t stop doing the little things that make up feel better about how you look and feel.
You can and should wash your hair if you want to. Take a shower. It’s going to be okay.
The 15-20 minutes you take to do these things isn’t going to cause you to fail your final. When you feel clean, you feel better.
So, don’t take your hygiene for granted because you don’t think it’s worth losing those few minutes from studying.
If you don’t have a regular routine, start one. Even if it’s just washing your face with your favorite face wash or drinking tea in your robe and slippers.
Create a routine that you look forward to each day. This will motivate you to get things done so you can get to your favorite self-care activities.
Get Some Sleep
Self-care is more than just getting massages or painting your toenails. Its about taking time out to listen to what your body is telling you.
If your body is telling you it needs rest, then you should give it some rest. You won’t retain information when your body is done for the day.
If you feel sleepy while studying, take a nap. If you know you have a lot more to get through set your alarm for 20-30 minutes. That’s enough time for you to recharge your battery—your brain—and get back to studying.
Getting enough sleep will enhance your performance when test taking as well as improve memory retention. 8 hours of sleep is the perfect amount.
Although it may seem like a good idea to stay up all night getting in a good cram session, the studying you do while tired isn’t going to as efficient as the studying you do when you are fully recharged. It’s science.
If you don’t know what ASMR is, it stands for autonomous sensory meridian response.
It’s like a tingly sensation you get when you see or hear something satisfying. Not everyone gets the tingly feeling and that’s okay.
The reason I’m suggesting these videos is that they are very calming.
They usually put me right to sleep and if I’m not careful I’ll accidentally stumble on an interesting one during the day and end up napping.
These ASMR videos can help you feel relaxed when you are feeling too much pressure from studying.
Don’t let finals week get you out of any exercise habits you may have.
If you don’t have any then pick some up for finals week. You are going to need an outlet for the stress the exams cause.
Why not take that stress out at the gym? It’s good for you and good for your mental health.
I’m sure you’re thinking that working out would be wasting time from getting a study session in but feeling good after a workout is motivation for you to continue being productive for the day.
You can also listen to your lecture or any other study material in your earphones while you workout if you don’t want to feel like you aren’t taking full advantage of your time.
We’ve been hearing this tip since elementary school. “Eat a good healthy breakfast before your big test tomorrow,” said every elementary school teacher everywhere in the world.
But it’s true that eating healthy well-balanced meals help you to do better on exams.
Take A Break From Studying For Final Exams
Everyone takes a break sometimes. Beyonce takes breaks. Rihanna takes breaks. Meg Thee Stallion takes breaks. Taylor Swift takes breaks.
Okay you get my point. You deserve a break. Trying to force yourself to stay in study mode hours on end is going to drive you insane.
Don’t study for so long that you don’t remember anything.
This has happened to one of my friends. She studied like a machine for 3 days. I don’t even remember her coming out to eat or drink anything.
The day of the test she went in sat down and couldn’t focus on anything. She had a panic attack and had to be taken out of class. Don’t be that girl.
Fortunately, our professor understood her condition and allowed her to retake the test later, but all professors aren’t so forgiving.
Choose Your Sanity Above All Else
Don’t lose your mind. It’s easier said than done but stress is terrible thing that can actually make you sick.
If you are studying more than you are living your life you are doing it wrong. You have to find a balance to be able to fit studying in when it is natural to do so.
Set aside study hours and personal hours within your day.
When you start to feel overwhelmed, walk away for a while and come back to it. I promise it will still be there.
Get Some Help
I know the stress of wanting to do good on your final exams to finish your semester with a bang however, if you are ever feeling so overwhelmed that you are not feeling like yourself you should seek help immediately.
Tell a counselor or a professor that you trust how you are feeling and what you have been thinking.
Honestly, sometimes a good talk with someone that has been where you are will help you pull through your anxiety.
If talking it out doesn’t help let your counselor find the appropriate help for you.
Be honest with your counselor and yourself it’s okay if you are feeling stressed and need a little extra help. Judgement free zone!
If you want to talk to me you can always DM me on Instagram @adricollegelife.
I promise I’ll answer and we can talk about it. I’m here for you sis. I don’t just write about it, I am about it! Be good to yourself!
